“Most Halfling homes used riverbank clay for heaping on top. The river was right nearby, and clay took years to erode, so it made for easy maintainence. But the Corkstubbles- a family that had peculiar opinions about this, and many other things- would use loamy soil from the meadow a quarter-mile away. They swore that kind of dirt would keep the temperature inside their house agreeable year round.”
